A novel air core electromagnetic fault current limiter with rotational motion

The authors deal with design and analysis of an air-core electromagnetic fault current limiter (FCL) rotary motion. proposed device is characterised by a simple structure, fast operating speed reversible operation. It consists two movable concentric air core spherical reactor rings (i.e. inner outer rings) variable mutual angular displacement. At normal condition, reactors are approximately aligned, subsequently, the effective inductance/impedance equipment respective voltage drop low. faulty conditions, short circuit exerts repulsive torque on reactors, which results in steady increase During this process, inductance rapidly rises up to level that effectively limits current. To determine effectiveness topology limiting network's current, profile FCL characteristic compared similar case studies (a) linear (b) without FCL. carried out via finite element (FE) supported analytical theoretical discussion. Finally, down-scale prototype was built tested verify functionality lab environment.
